His history

Following the request of several inhabitants of the city wishing a green space in which to relax and forget the bustle of the city, the State decided to build this park in 1857.

The creators :  Frederick Law Olmsted and  Calvert Vaux .  Frederick Law Olmsted was an American landscape designer and architect. Originally, his project was for the park to be divided into three parts: a large green space, a so-called picturesque space and a space with a fountain and a body of water. Calvert Vaux is also an American architect and landscape designer. He saw the park as a huge park capable of accommodating the greatest number.

At the beginning of the creation of the park, the affluence was such that the Central Park Zoo and the Metropolitan Museum of Art settled. But the arrival of the automobile overshadowed this creation of greenery and maintenance was neglected. This is why the new mayor Fiorello LaGuardia decided to breathe new life into the park. The park was again vandalized in the 1960s and it was not until the 1970s that associations rehabilitated the park thanks to donations.
